THE MACDONALD MINUTES

Isaiah 41:9-10: 9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its remotest parts And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you. 10 ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Just the other day, I was texting a family member of mine. Recently, some significant people in their life have passed away. These losses have significantly affected their friends/families outlook on life at the moment. This has left my family member to be in a state of assistance, when this person themselves really needs it!

Nonetheless, when I was texting this loved one, they sent a text that really stuck with me. The text read “I feel so helpless”. I sent prayers and comfort after she said that, of course. But truthfully, my instant reaction in my head was “But you aren’t without help.” This thought and feeling of helplessness is not to be understated or undermined, however. This feeling of temporary affliction, as if there is nothing you can do, is truly upsetting.

But to any of you that feel this feeling, I want you to know that you’re not alone. You are not without help. God is with you.

Take the example of the Israelites here in Isaiah 41. These people have rebelled. They have been taken into captivity. They have been put under many different leaderships. Yet, still, God looks after them. These people rebel, they fight, the name “Israel” literally means “wrestled with God.” These people rebelled to the point to where it seemed as if they were almost predestined to do so (which, of course, is not the case).

God was with them, even when they turned their backs on Him. Even when the focuses of the people were pointed to earthly things, God’s focus was His people, and their souls.

Today, your eyes might be pointed to other things. You may be caught in a state of distraught. Things could be looking bad for you in your life. But in those moments, do not ever think that you’re helpless for a second. If you have God, if you have received Him and experienced the blessings and peace that He provides, you can know that you’re never alone.

I know that it can seem daunting. I know that the things of this world can take you to task. They can push you to a limit you never thought you could reach. But more than this, God delivers. Do not fear, God is with you. He will deliver you when you look around your life with anxiety. God will strengthen you when you’re weak. He will pick you up when you are fallen. He will mend what has been broken.

You feel helpless? You feel alone? Jesus is helper, and He will be with you until the end.
