THE MACDONALD MINUTES

This time of year is a time of reflection upon our Country, its foundation, and its benefits. Perhaps one of the things we treasure most about being citizens of the United States of America is our freedom. Many have died to preserve it, and for that, we thank them for their service.

But in this nation, one nation, under God, we must realize from whom and through whom true freedom comes.

Our freedom as Americans was mightily and thankfully declared on July 4th, 1776. Our freedom as Christians, however, was won on the cross at Calvary around 2000 years ago.

In this country, we have freedom to express our religion. We have freedom to express our love for God. But because of Jesus, we have ability to have religion, and a love for God- period! (1 John 4:19)

In this country, we have the freedom and right to bear arms, and to protect ourselves and our families with them. With Jesus, we have ultimate protection. We have protection from the wrath of God. We have protection from eternal death and ruin. (Romans 8:1-2)

In this country, we have freedom of speech. Because of Jesus, we have the ability to use this freedom to proclaim His gospel, and bring the wayfaring to God (Matthew 28:18-20)

In this country, we have the right to vote and choose who our next leader will be. With Jesus, the same is true- eternally so (Acts 2:38).

This country provides us many great freedoms- the best freedoms that this world has ever seen. That said, the greatest freedom is that which we have in Christ, free from sin, free from guilt, free from fear on Judgment Day. This also requires that we know the truth (John 8:32) and also live by the truth (John 14:6).

God bless America. But let us thank God that He has blessed His people beyond compare with the sending of His Son.
