THE MACDONALD MINUTES

If you were to ask ten different people what they think about the church, you might get ten very different answers. Some might think of stained glass windows and Sunday morning traditions. Others might remember hurtful experiences or view the church as out of touch. Still others might speak of community, truth, and the love of Christ.

But instead of asking others what they think, here’s the more important question: What does God think about the church?

In Acts 20:28, Paul reminds the elders in Ephesus that the church was “purchased with His own blood.” Think about that.

The church isn’t a human invention. It’s not a club or a building. It is the blood-bought people of God- those who have been redeemed and called out of the world to follow Christ together.

Ephesians 3:10 says that through the church, “the manifold wisdom of God is made known.” That’s God’s view of the church: a display of His wisdom, grace, and purpose in the world. We are His witnesses, not just as individuals, but as a body, working together in unity and love.

So yes, the church is imperfect. It’s made up of flawed people being shaped into the image of Christ. But we should never let the world’s opinions, or our own past experiences, shape how we view the church. We should let God’s Word shape our view.

Let’s love the church as Christ does. Let’s serve it, strengthen it, and speak well of it- not because it’s always easy, but because it belongs to Him and we want to glorify Him in everything we do as members of His Church!
